War Upon The Cross

Saviours of Sin are a four piece metal outfit from Ireland. They formed in 2005 and War Upon The Cross is their second EP.

Metal is not often my first choice I'm a rock gal at heart but bands like Saviours of Sin are definitely swaying me towards a more metal diet. On first listen the immediate thought I had was that the music is very rooted in their Celtic history; in the sound, style and lyrics. The tracks are heavy, with frenetic guitar solos and pounding drums. The vocals are strong and likeable.

Two of the tracks stood out in particular; Barbarians: melodic start has a slightly softer atmosphere and edge to it, while interchanging between fast and slow guitars and military style drumming.

Upon the Cross is an epic number reaching nearly the ten minute mark. Its lovely, haunting and evocative start gives way to oppressive, ominous sounding vocals. The track finishes with a marathon of a guitar solo!

The Sabbath-esque cover sets the tone of the EP well encompassing the moody, threatening and edgy sound of the music. It's definitely worth checking out.
